Hotel Ambadi - a 46 room theme resort situated at the Periyar Tiger Reserves, is one of the first private sector resorts in Kerala. Designed by the world renowned architect Mr. Lauwrie Baker, the hotel was conceptualized on the traditional architectural splendor of a typical Kerala village, complete with a thulasi thara and nallukettu. "Ambadi" as the name denotes is the birth place of Lord Krishna, the mythical god in the great epic of India - The Mahabharatha. The life of lord Krishna, the history, the myth, is the core theme of this resort. The resort is replete with references to the life of Lord Krishna. Ambadi offers 46 well appointed rooms,under three different categories. Ambadi is located very close to the Periyar Wildlife sanctuary, and a short stroll will get you to the sanctuary in minutes. Visit cardamom, pepper, coffee and tea plantations, where you can have an inside view at the growing ,harvesting, processing stages of these products. Daily sight seeing trips are arranged to the wildlife sanctuary and the Periyar lake. The Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary Periyar is located at Thekkadi, Idukki district. The Thekkady Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary was established in 1993. It is located at 9deg 15min and 9deg 40min North latitude and 76deg 55min and 77deg 25min East longitude. At an altitude varying from 900m to 1800m sea level, the climate is pleasant with temperatures ranging from a maximum of 32deg Celsius to a minimum of 15deg Celsius. Forest Areas cover about 777 Sq.Km and Evergreen Forests extends up to 360 Sq.Km. Periyar Wildlife Park is one of India's most enjoyable and intriguing national parks. It is certainly one of the country's largest and the best administered, and is the veritable home of the Indian elephant. In addition, it offers the most luxurious way of viewing animals in their natural environment - you just need to relax in the comfort of a motor launch and the panorama of the park unfolds as you glide across the placid waters of Periyar Lake. Wildlife in the sanctuary include elephants, sambar deer, wild boar, Nilgri langur monkeys, bonnet and lion-tailed macaques, porcupine, the Gaur, mouse deer, bears, wild dogs, civets jackals, flying squirrels, mongoose, pangolin cobra and others.
